Gr. 1^-2. From the My First I Can Read Book series comes a simple story that offers repetition, rhythm, and rhyme to speed beginners on their way into reading. Six fish are swimming in the shallows when six children's feet appear. One fish is trapped under a child's upside-down pail, until the child returns to retrieve the toy and unknowingly releases the fish. Schindler's pictures contribute color and visual clues to the action for those who need them. Adults determined to do so can make this into a counting book as well, but what the text and pictures really have to offer is a story simple enough for beginning readers to cut their teeth on and appealing enough for them to stick with. On that basis alone, it will be welcome in many libraries. Carolyn Phelan --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
